Mountain lions feast on deer near Durango trail

Residents should be cautious
Residents should use caution around Junction Creek after a trail camera caught mountain lions eating a deer.

Its been a busy winter for wildlife around Durango, with bears up past their usual denning time, lynx romping around U.S. Highway 550 and ski trails at Purgatory Resort, and now: two mountain lions trolling around Junction Creek.

This past week, Robin Wiles caught on her game trail camera two mountain lions feasting on a deer the stealthy hunters killed about 4 feet away from her home, near Junction Creek Road and Birket Street, near Four Corners Health Care Center.

Wiles said the mountain lions have returned each night and early morning to feed on the carcass, and cautioned anyone using the adjacent open space, accessed by Birket Trail, to be cautious.
