One teenager died and two other minors were injured Tuesday in a rollover crash on Colorado Highway 184 northwest of Mancos, according to law enforcement officers.

The crash happened near milepost 15, according to Capt. Angela Deguelle of the Colorado State Patrol.

The westbound vehicle went off the opposite side of the road, down an embankment and across a ditch, rolling 1½ times before stopping on County Road R, nearly 12 miles northwest of Mancos.

Deguelle could not say whether speed was a factor in the crash, but said impairment was not thought to be a factor. The investigation is continuing.

One passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital, and the second passenger was flown by a helicopter to a hospital.

The deceased passenger was identified as Jesse “JD” Minor, according to a Facebook post Wednesday by the Mancos Marshal’s Office. He was the son of deputy Jesse Minor of the Mancos Marshal’s Office and his wife, Shandra.

Dolores School District RE-4A announced in a Facebook post Wednesday that all three were Dolores High School students, and the two injured teens were in “stable condition.”

The Marshal’s Office said the three teens were traveling to Dolores for basketball practice at the time of the crash.

Memorial funds to assist the Minor family have been set up at all branches of the Dolores State Bank and Four Corners Community Bank.

The district planned a “safe meeting space” with counselors for students and staff from 9 a.m. to noon in the high school and middle school commons.

The district urged people to reach out for support. Axis Health System can be reached at (970) 247-5245, and the Montezuma County Crisis Intervention Program, connected through Cortez dispatchers, can be reached at (970) 565-8454. When calling dispatch, ask for CIP.
