Montezuma-Cortez, Dolores and Mancos school districts have announced a two-hour delay to the start of school on Thursday because of extreme weather.
Montezuma-Cortez Superintendent Tom Burris contacted The Journal about the delay, and the district’s website shared that schools and buses will run on a two-hour delay of their normal schedule. Southwest Open School will have a two-hour delay as well.
“We are doing a two-hour delay due to slick roads, black ice and abundance of care for our students and safety,” Mancos Superintendent Todd Cordrey told The Journal in an email.
According to the Dolores school district’s website, the preschool will have a delayed start at 9:30 a.m. and the middle school and high school will start at 9:45 p.m. The elementary school will start at 10 a.m.
As of this writing at 9:20 p.m., there has been no formal announcement of a delayed start time for schools in Dove Creek. Burris shared that Children’s Kiva Montessori School and Battle Rock Charter School were notified of Montezuma-Cortez’s delay, but there has been no formal announcement whether these schools will also have a delay.
