PROVO, Utah – In another landmark achievement in her storied golf career, Montezuma-Cortez alumnus Kiseyla (Plewe) Salcedo collected her first professional paycheck with a third-place finish at the Utah Women’s Open.
In the tournament, held Monday and Tuesday at Timpanogos Golf Club in Provo, the 2016 Montezuma-Cortez graduate fired rounds of 73 and 68 to finish 3-under-par overall, tying for third place.
Salcedo, who competed for Dolores High School, is enjoying a career adorned with plaudits from both her high school career and her time at Weber State University.
Salcedo finished as the second professional in the field behind current Brigham Young University golfer Adeline Wach (11-under-par), who won the event with amateur status, and former Cougar Kerstin Ngakuru (5-under-par), who was the top professional.
Salcedo became a force on the course at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez during her four years for the Bears. She placed in the top 11 in each of her four state tournament appearances, including back-to-back fourth-place finishes in her junior and senior seasons.
From there, she took her game to the collegiate level for the Wildcats. Salcedo closed out her career with multiple top-10 finishes and a top-20 result in the Big Sky Championships.
Salcedo will take on a new challenge with another Montezuma-Cortez graduate in the coming year, joining former Panther state golf champion and current Fort Lewis College women’s golf coach Shea Sena on the Skyhawks’ coaching staff.
