Montezuma-Cortez to host suicide prevention meeting

A Suicide Prevention Community Summit has been scheduled at Montezuma-Cortez High School on Nov. 15, at 5:30 p.m.

“This event is an opportunity to learn about suicide prevention resources for all ages and connect with community members to create a locally based support system for those in need,” organizer Mary Dengler-Frey said in a news release to “community stakeholders.” Dengler-Frey is regional health connector for the Southwestern Colorado Area Health Education Center, a regional service in Durango.

Susan Becker is scheduled to lead informational and breakout discussion sessions. She is a psychology professor at Colorado Mesa University.

Breakout groups are planned for youths, LGBTQ youths, Native Americans, faith-based groups and military veterans.

The key presentation begins at 5:45 p.m., followed by breakout sessions at 6:45 p.m. at M-CHS, 418 S. Sligo St.
