The Montezuma-Cortez school district will host an emergency board meeting Tuesday to discuss student mask-wearing.
The only action item on the agenda is a recommendation to require students to wear masks “during high COVID infection incidences.”
The meeting will begin at 5 p.m.
It follows an announcement sent out to Montezuma-Cortez High School families Monday at 2:30 p.m. stating that an individual had tested positive for COVID-19. Kemper Elementary also announced a case of COVID-19.
It’s not clear whether the infected individuals were students.
Last week, the district announced that six schools had cases of the coronavirus.
District RE-1 Superintendent Risha VanderWey could not be reached for comment.
The letter said parents would receive a notification from the district by the end of the day if their child came into close contact — within 6 feet for 15 minutes or more — with the virus-positive individual.
Those in close contact are required by the district to quarantine for 10 days, unless they show proof of full vaccination or a positive COVID-19 test within the last 90 days.
The district is allowing individuals who produce a negative PCR test on day five after exposure to return to school on day seven.
Teachers will offer educational support through Google Classroom, the release said.
