Literary Fridays at the Library will feature the Montezuma-Cortez High School Jazz Ensemble at 10 a.m. on April 20 at 202 N. Park St.
The Montezuma-Cortez High School Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned group composed of some of the top student musicians in the band program, according to a news release from the Cortez Public Library.
The group meets every day before school to rehearse, and its members are students in grades 9-12. Under the direction of Alex Mohr, the Jazz Ensemble has enjoyed a successful year, with performances at the M-CHS Holiday Concert and the Fort Lewis Jazz Festival.
In the spring, the Jazz Ensemble will perform at a number of events including the Cortez District Band Night concert on April 24, the M-CHS Senior Appreciation Concert on May 10, the Skyline Jazz Festival in Denver, and a concert tour of the local elementary schools. Selections for the library concert will include the music of George Gershwin and Gordon Goodwin.
