Montezuma-Cortez golf team celebrates year’s achievements

The 2020 Montezuma-Cortez High School golf team held its annual awards ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Conquistador Golf Course.

Each player had a personal best this season, and the team celebrated a successful season, which included a second-place finish in the 3A Regional Tournament and an eighth-place finish in the Colorado State Golf Championship in Gunnison.

Among the standout players was sophomore Thayer Plewe, who placed second overall in the 3A state tournament and was named Intermountain League Player of the Year. Plewe and JJ Brunner also were named to the IML All-League team.

Five players were awarded the varsity sports letter for golf – Brunner, Robert Hebert, Kaden Huff, Nick Mahaffey and Thayer Plewe.
