Momentum Fitness open 24-hours in Mancos

A manager is on-call at all times, co-owner says
Kira Gosney, holding her daughter, Evelyn Rose, has opened Momentum Fitness in Mancos.

A new gym has opened in Mancos and will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Momentum Fitness has other locations in Bayfield and Pagosa Springs. The Mancos location, at 200 E. Frontage Road, opened Sunday.

“The 24-hour concept has worked well in other small towns, so we thought it would do well here in Mancos,” said co-owner Kira Gosney.

The fitness center offers strength and cardio equipment, as well as several classes, Gosney said. Grand Gym in downtown Mancos merged with Momentum Fitness, and most of the classes previously offered at Grand Gym now will meet at Momentum, she said.

Though the gym will be open all the time, it won’t be staffed constantly, Gosney said. Members enter the building by entering a code on a keypad on the door, she said. A manager is on-call at all times even if there isn’t a staff member in the building, she said.

“We’re offering a safe, comfortable, clean atmosphere for people to come in without having to drive to Cortez or Durango,” Gosney said.

A champagne brunch on Sunday ushered in the gym’s grand opening. Gosney said the event went better than expected, with lots of people showing up. Momentum Fitness offers several membership options including 12- and 18-month rates.

Gosney said the gym’s name reflects its fitness values.

“Health and fitness is all about momentum,” she said. “It might be hard to get started, but once you get going it gets better and better if you keep your momentum going.”
