The Cortez Police Department will host a Blue Light Honor Walk on Nov. 22 in honor of Sgt. Michael Moran, who was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 29 last year.
It will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St.
“Mike was a dedicated Marine, son, brother, father, law enforcement officer and friend to many,” the PD said in an announcement.
The PD encourages all in the community to attend. Blue lights will be given out to participants until supplies run out.
Moran was shot and killed during a traffic stop around 11:25 a.m. on Nov. 29 on South Broadway, across from the Handy Mart in southwest Cortez.
The suspect was killed a short while later in a shootout with law enforcement after fleeing.
“His loss has deeply affected Cortez and the Montezuma County community, and we hope this event will help us all come together to remember him and begin to heal,” the PD said. “Let's walk together and keep his memory alive.”
