Mesa Verde Rims to Ruins exhibit coming up

The Mesa Verde Foundation announces the second annual Rims to Ruins event, with even more artists.

The artist will work for three days right at the park, then on May 17, there will be an exhibit and sale for the benefit of the park. Twenty-six artists will participate. Later in the year, the artworks will be on exhibit at a special showing in Denver.

Halwood at the Cortez Cultural Center

The Benson Halwood exhibit planned for May 12- May 31, opening reception May 23, 2014, 5 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome. Watercolor is the principal media for this young artist. He plans on working with acrylics or oils once he is well established in the art world with his watercolors. He has two distinct styles; both are highly individual. Most often encountered is a presentation of a people-environment theme

Beyond the Pavement

Lillian Siefer's art will be shown at Olio from May 10 through July 19 with an artist's reception on May 10 from 4-6 p.m. As usual, you can acquire a good glass of wine to accompany your art-gazing.

Meanwhile on the home front

I'm still recruiting artists for the Great Mancos Art Roundup and Studio Tour.

Here's who's signed up so far: Jan Wright, Janet Lever-Wood, Patty Russell, Jay Fann. Shirlen Heath, Patsy Davis, Marilyn Kroeker, Dian Law, Carol Van den Harten, Patricia Burk and Deb Doty.

Even if you don't have a studio, we can find you downtown space to work and show. Really! This year there will be considerably more advertising - radio has been included in our budget. If you're interested in exposure, this is the way to do it.

Motion

The reception for the artists who are in the current show at the Town Gallery will be this Friday night - the night before the big race - the Cowboy Half Marathon! It's 5-7 p.m. Come on over, meet the artists, kick off the weekend!

This will be my last column. I am passing the baton to someone younger and stronger. Jaime Becktel, a multitalented gal has agreed to take on the task of keeping our Mancos community informed on the arts and such. I'm sure you will read her column with the same enthusiasm as I've received. Thank you all for reading and enjoying . I'm sure Jaime will do a great job!

Adieu, mes amis!
