MECC’s Back to School Bash was a huge success, thanks to you

The Montelores Early Childhood Council would love to thank all of our partners, sponsors, supporters and volunteers! Thanks to you, we gave over 420 stuffed backpacks to pre-K to 12th-grade students in Montezuma County. Our goal was 300, and we overshot the goal by a long shot! No child was turned away!

Thank you, in no particular order, to: The Montelores Early Childhood Council members, Salvation Army, city of Cortez, Cortez Real Estate Enhancement Association, First National Bank, United Country Blue Sky Homes and Land, Biz Builders Luncheon, Dolores State Bank, Montelores Catholic Community, New Country Auto, NAPA Auto Parts, Papa Murphy’s Pizza of Cortez, Suburban Propane of Cortez, Dollar Tree of Cortez, Project Homefront, Axis Health Systems, Cortez Public Library, City Market, Cortez Police Department, Mancos P&D, Re/Max Mesa Verde, Osprey, Tiger By the Tail, Optical Shoppe, Reed Hurst Trucking, Town & Country Furnishings, American Family Insurance, Antique Corral, Sun Glass, Fast Eddie’s, Vectra Bank, Kiwanis Club of Mesa Verde, Vangi McCoy, Mac Wyman, Lisa Henry, Ann & Doug Brown, Donna Fitzpatrick, Lawrence Svendsen, John and Ruthanna Dougherty, Lisa Stone-Muntz, Molly Ender, Philip and Julie Ayers, Kate Kerns, Chuck and MB McAfee, Hugh Robinson, Redina Thompson, Nadia Corrasco, Maria Ruiz, Lupe Aguirre, Manuel Anguiano, Yolanda Flores, Paola Martines, Gale and Alan Fernandes, Gloria Murillo, Beronica and Suhren and to all who gave anonymously or to one of our donation sites! We also wish to thank all of our volunteers who helped gather, pack, transport and give out each backpack, we could not have done it without you! A special thanks to the barbers and cosmetologists from Shear Shack and Cortez Barber Shop that cut hair at the event – 39 haircuts in three hours is a huge feat! You guys were rock stars!

If you know of any student in Montezuma County who is still in need, we still have a few backpacks. Contact us at 970-564-3211

With gratitude,

Vangi McCoy, council coordinator, and Katrina Lindus, programs coordinator
