MCSO reports burglaries

$96,000 in cash stolen

Law enforcement officials reported that two youths were arrested over the weekend in connection with two burglaries.

Limited details of the case were posted on the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page on Saturday. According to the social media site, both burglaries occurred between Oct. 12 and Oct. 14.

Officials reported more than $96,000 in cash and two handguns were stolen from safes.

The burglars allegedly rammed one victim’s truck in an attempt to flea the second burglary. The getaway vehicle was later discovered burned near Groundhog Reservoir.

Officials said both handguns and about $81,000 of the stolen cash were recovered along with more than a pound of marijuana.

Requests for additional details were unanswered as of press time.
