The Mancos Valley Chorus will welcome spring with a series of four concert next month.
Concerts will take place in Mancos at the Mancos United Methodist Church on May 1 at 3:30 p.m. and May 6 at 7 p.m.
The chorus will appear in Cortez on May 3 at the Cortez Methodist Church at 7 p.m., and in Durango at Christ the King Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. May 4. The concerts are free and refreshments are served at a reception after the performances.
For the spring shows, the theme is “Rain.” The 30-member chorus will stage a show featuring songs that showcase the beauty of rain, such as “Over The Rainbow” and “Singin’ In The Rain.” Several soloists will be featured in the show, said member Brent McWhirter.
“It’s going to be a fun concert,” he said. “We’ve worked hard on the music.”
Director Kriss Larsen leads the chorus and Lee Bartley is accompanist for the group. The spring shows will feature a backing band with a drummer and bass player.
The group is looking for more members, McWhirter said. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. and the entry fee is $20 per person, which goes toward paying for music for the group.
