Mancos to spray weeds in Boyle Park June 5

Park will be closed all day for maintenance

The town of Mancos announced Wednesday that it plans to close Boyle Park for weed management on June 5.

According to a release from Town Administrator Heather Alvarez, the town has contracted with Advantage K-Lawn to conduct fertilization and weed abatement on that day. Advantage K-Lawn is licensed by the Colorado Department of Agriculture, and its methods have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, according to the release.

Alvarez said she plans to post a more detailed list of the chemicals used at the park on the town website on Friday.

At its meeting on May 9, the Mancos town board informally approved a switch from last year’s organic weed control methods to more traditional “weed-and-feed” methods, saying the park’s weeds have grown out of control since the town went organic.

To alleviate the concerns of residents who are worried about the safety of non-organic spraying, Alvarez promised to publicize upcoming weed maintenance in advance.
