Mancos routs Del Norte in homecoming game

Sophomore running back Chase Moore again unstoppable as Bluejays win, 58-0

On an evening that will be remembered as the first in which the Mancos High School football team played on its newly renovated home field, local fans had plenty to cheer about as the Bluejays dominated Del Norte and rolled to a 58-0 victory.

Leading the way for Mancos during the Sept. 27 contest was sophomore running back Chase Moore, who again proved that he was the best player on the field while running the ball 13 times for 229 yards and five touchdowns.

Moore’s stellar performance came a week after he amassed 572 all-purpose yards, which excludes passing yards, during his team’s 58-31 victory over Sargent. Moore’s all-purpose yardage was the second-most accumulated by a player during a single game in Colorado state history.

While Moore’s performance during his team’s victory over Del Norte last Friday again stole the show, several other Mancos players put forth solid performances that helped their team role to an easy victory.

Anthony Medina falls to the ground Friday night after being upended on a punt return on the way to a Mancos win over Del Norte.

Among those players was senior running back Anthony Medina, who rushed the ball four times for 59 yards and 1 touchdown. Senior quarterback Breccen Morelli ran the ball five carries for 41 yards and one touchdown. Christian Cova ran the ball 3 times for 21 yards and one touchdown as the Bluejays ran the ball for 349 total yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Mancos was again led by standout junior Colt Fury, who made a team-high 21 tackles. Cova was also in on several critical defensive plays as the junior was credited with 11 total tackles. Morelli was credited with two sacks.

The Bluejays led 24-0 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 44-0 at halftime. Although the clock ran throughout the second half due to the Bluejays 44-point lead, Mancos still managed to score two second half touchdowns.

With their record now at 4-0 on the season at 2-0 in the A-8 Mountain League, the team will prepare for a road matchup against Sangre De Cristo, which is scheduled to take place on Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
