Mancos is such a fantastic place to call home! I have been blessed over and over by being here.
The past week has offered some great music through out little library that is the heart of this beautiful place. It is worth writing about!
First was Jamie and the Dreamers, last week at the library’s first Harvest Celebration. They are a local duo who do mostly original work that delights, and a little storytelling. What could be better? They are Amy and Jodie (that is one of the stories). Jodie plays keyboard with panache and passion but his main instrument is a “Nui Baritone Ulelele” and he absolutely excels. He can make is sound like the Uke that it is, a banjo and sometimes even a mandolin. In addition their vocals are sweet, harmonies tight and glorious. Amy has the voice of an angel.
The second experience was on Thursday evening when the Absolute Bakery graciously hosted the second in a series of the Four Corners – One Book Initiative. The Absolute Bakery is truly a landmark in this community and they always give back so much. The San Juan String band captivated us for over an hour with some toe-tapping original work as well as some great old standards. These women work for the Park Service by day and rock and roll at night. They may be the best kept secret in the area. They are really wonderful. We were truly wowed.
And all of this happening in my little town.
Thank you to all the talented people who share their magic with us, make programs and art happen, carry us away for a few hours on the wings of music, the universal language.
