Mancos graduate is awarded a Pinnacol Foundation scholarship

Mancos High School graduate Sierra Wilson recently was awarded a scholarship from the Pinnacol Foundation.

Wilson, a sophomore at Fort Lewis College, is studying marketing.

The Pinnacol Foundation awards scholarships to people who have lost family members or loved ones in a work-related accident. The foundation has awarded about $390,000 in scholarships this year to the children of Colorado workers who were killed or seriously injured in work-related accidents.

Wilson’s stepfather died in 2012 as a result of a workplace accident, Wilson said.

Mancos schools staff helped Wilson apply for the scholarship, which is recurring, she said.

“It was exciting, to say the least,” Wilson said.
