One final time, recent Mancos graduate Colt Fury donned a blue-and-white uniform for the Bluejays, representing Southwest Colorado in the eight-man All-State Football Game in Black Hawk. The Mancos standout took to the field at Gilpin County High School in Black Hawk, playing for the South team in an exhibition contest with some of the best eight-man talent in the Centennial State.
Fury’s South squad, which included some of the premier players from the Mountain, Southern, and Arkansas Valley leagues in the eight-man classification, fell to the North team, 34-20.
The game’s mission, aside from providing many eight-man stars one more chance to play under the Friday Night Lights, is to help generate a fund to support post-secondary education scholarships for eight-man football student-athletes.
Fury’s appearance on the squad keeps a tradition of Southwest Colorado representation in the event, which included former Bluejays Hunter Hoover and Chance Morgan-Garcia, along with Dove Creek’s Austin Green, the last time the game was played in 2019.
Fury served as an instrumental piece in Mancos’ recent success on the gridiron, including another winning season in the shortened fall campaign. The Bluejays capped a 3-2 season, which concluded in the state quarterfinals against Sanford.
Fury teamed up with a number of Indians, who also earned invitations to the contest, to play for Swink High School head coach Dan Hiltz.
In his Mancos career, Fury served as an imposing threat on both the offensive line and from his linebacker position. He helped pave the way for fellow all-state performer, junior Chase Moore, who rushed for over 200 yards per game behind Fury’s blocking.
On the defensive side, Fury paced Mancos with 73 tackles from his linebacker position, and appeared to be everywhere while menacing opposing offenses for the Bluejays. Fury earned a Second Team All-State nod for the second consecutive year after his sensational senior football season.
His punishing prowess also served Fury on the wrestling mat, where he posted another dominant year in the 182-pound weight classification. Fury went 17-5, earning a spot in the 2A State Wrestling Championships to cap an impressive high school athletic career.
