Mancos Creative District issues call for Melt bed racers

Annual tradition coming up in March
The Mancos Creative District invites locals to register for the traditional bed racing competition at the Mancos Melt. In this photo from 2011’s event, Rena Wilson, Mackenzie Cooper and Gelia Cooper push the bed as Cindy Rowley rides in the bed.

It’s a month away from the 10th annual Mancos Melt, and all bed racers – professionals and amateurs alike – are encouraged to register now for the morning race on March 16.

The Melt is a celebration of the start of spring for the Mancos Valley, and traditionally features a golf tournament and, of course, bed races. This is the second year that the event is being organized by the Mancos Creative District, and its theme will follow that of last year’s: “A Spark of Burning Man,” after the famed summer festival in which artists collect in the Nevada desert to build a temporary city.

The three-day Melt will take place March 14-16. The events calendar has yet to be released, but some of the festivities include wine tasting at OLIO – Food Wine Art, music at Millwood Junction Restaurant and at the Mancos Brewing Co., a fun run/walk, and more.

Registration for the bed race is $50, with proceeds going to support Mancos Creative District programs and events. For more information and to register, call Anne Beach at 946-6507.
