Workshop aims to help farmers

Colorado AgrAbility will host a free workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Southwest Colorado Community College. The workshop, "AgrAbility Farm/Ranch Adaptations & Financial Resources," will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and includes lunch for those who pre-register at least one week before the workshop. It will be held in the ITC building of SCCC, 33057 U.S. 160, Mancos.

Giving Tree

is seeking apps

The 2013 Mancos Giving Tree, now in it's 16th year, is a community-based, anonymous, volunteer effort that distributes Christmas gifts to about 150 Mancos-area residents each year that may not have a Christmas.

There are no age or income tests for Giving Tree. Residents of Mancos Valley and students in the schools are welcome to apply. Look for applications at Mancos schools and churches. The Visitor Center also has application forms, as does Mancos Valley Bank. The Chamber of Commerce website (www.mancosvalley.com) has a copy posted.

Return the applications to the school office or nurse, to the Visitors Center, Mancos Valley Bank, or mail to P. O. Box 535. Applications must be received by Nov. 22.

The trees will be at the Mancos Library, the Columbine Bar, Mancos Valley Bank, P & D and Zuma.

Giving Tree elves ask that everyone consider shopping locally. Favorite massage therapists, beauticians, veterinarians and more can become involved.

Mancos Valley Resources, a local 501(c)3 nonprofit, is again acting as a pass-through agency for the Mancos Giving Tree. Donors who wish a charitable deduction for tax purposes may pass those gifts through MVR. Patricia Burke and Betsy Harrison are MVR contacts. Please mail checks to P.O. Box 204, Mancos 81328 or call 533-7434.

Consider the Giving Tree for holiday and year-end donations. Lori Elworthy (799-0159), Denise Rentz (739-6336) and Jeanne Freed 882-1260) are organizing Giving Tree for 2013.
