Autopsy planned for next week
Durango Police Department detectives investigate the scene in the 500 block of Main Avenue where the body of an adult male was discovered Friday morning in a stairwell.
A 32-year-old man was found dead Friday in a stairwell outside a business in downtown Durango, according to Durango Police.
Cmdr. Ray Shupe said a report came in about 8:30 a.m. that a man was dead in a stairwell in the 500 block of Main Avenue.
The stairs lead to vacant office space under the Cowgirls Wholesale Outlet, next to the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad depot.
Shupe declined to release the man’s name until next of kin was notified.
Authorities don’t suspect anything suspicious about the man’s death. An autopsy will be conducted next week to determine the cause of death.
Shupe said the man was a member of Durango’s homeless community. A friend notified police after finding his body.
