21-year-old died Sunday, official says
Sheriff’s deputies found a man dead in the La Plata County Jail on Sunday, prompting an investigation by the Durango Police Department, the county coroner said.
A 21-year-old inmate died by self-asphyxiation around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, said La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith. The man’s name had not been publicly released as of Monday afternoon.
The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment, citing the active investigation. DPD investigator Sgt. Bobby Taylor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
