Man turned himself in on warrant

On June 8, Tyler Begay was convicted on one count of third-degree assault and one count of violation of a protection order at a jury trial.

New 22nd Judicial District Attorney Christian Hatfield and Assistant DA Jason Eley won delivered the conviction.

“After several hundred trials, I can say with certainty that our system of jury trials is the best in the world. I thank the citizens of Montezuma County for their service. Justice was done,” Hatfield said in a news release from the DA’s office.

On May 25, Begay turned himself in at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant. Officer Trevor Robertson responded to serve Begay his warrant before leaving him in the care of jail staff.
