M-CHS softball team dominates Alamosa

Freshman Taiah Wilson throws four shutout innings in team’s 12-0 victory

Mixing her stellar fastball with off-speed pitches that floated out of the reach of opposing bats, Montezuma-Cortez High freshman Taiah Wilson played the role of star during her team’s 12-0 home victory over Alamosa High on Sept. 10.

Over the course of the four-inning contest, Wilson struck out five batters and allowed just one hit. M-CHS’s freshman pitcher also walked just one batter.

While Wilson was mowing down Alamosa batters, M-CHS’s offense was purring like a well-oiled machine as the Lady Panthers’ hitters smashed 13 hits and drew five walks.

Among the many standout performers at the plate were Hailey Veach and Wilson, who each had three hits and drove in two runs.

Lizzie Likes smashed a double and drove in two runs.

Other run producers included Alyssa Cornett, who had one hit and one RBI, and Taelynn Comisky, who drew two walks and scored two runs.

With its record now at 4-2, 2-2 in the Class 3A District 5 League, M-CHS will briefly return to the practice diamond before taking the field for a home doubleheader against Meeker High School on Sept. 13.
