Weekend will feature nonstop action and lots of family fun

As evenings approach at Fairgrounds Speedway this weekend, Cortez’s local racing track will be alive with the roar of car engines as drivers from throughout the Four Corners hit the track for a number of International Motor Contest Association events.

The IMCA-sanctioned events begin at 7 p.m. on July 13-14, and several classifications will be featured, including hobby stocks, stock cars, sport mods and modifies. Sport compacts and a new mod lights classification will run July 14.

While the incentive to win at Fairgrounds Speedway is always great, given the track’s reputation as one of the finest in the Four Corners area, drivers will be even more motivated this weekend given that the midseason championship in each classification is on the line after this weekend’s races.

Several local racers, including Brody and Aaron Spangler lead their respective classifications, while Tony Hill and Kelly Odell are close behind the top spot and will look to improve their standing.

General admission to the races is $10, and family packs that allow admission for two adults and three children under the age of 12 can be purchased for $25.

Pit passes are available for $30, and children ages 6-12 can buy tickets for $5.

Concessions will be available at the speedway, and fans interested in seeing cars and drivers up close can purchase pit passes for $30. Individuals interested in receiving further information about this weekend’s races are encouraged to contact Fairgrounds Speedway staff at 970-759-9542.
