A nationally touring cello and banjo duo will bring their tunes to Dolores Saturday, Sept. 6.

The Littlest Birds will play at 8 p.m. at the Dolores River Brewery, 100 S. 4th St.

The Littlest Birds are from the Eastern Sierra of California. The duo features David Huebner on cello and Sharon Martinson on clawhammer banjo. Together since 2010, they've taken their unique Americana sound across 34 U.S. States and Canada including such festivals as the Vancouver Folk Music Festival in B.C., the Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, and the California Bluegrass Association's Father's Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley to name just a few.

Their sound is hard to describe as it seems to capture something both familiar and yet altogether unique. While both David and Sharon have classical music backgrounds, their original music is inspired by their lifestyle along the eastern flank of the Sierra Nevada where they make their home, and by many different musical interests from the "grunge" music of the '90s to the oldest American folk recordings. Through David's history of long backpack trips and mountain climbing, to Sharon's study of ecology and old time Appalachian music, to their joint building venture in Baja, they combine inspirations to form a sort of chamber music meets folk music sound that is dynamic and soothing.

Many years ago you may have seen David as a 12-year-old on the Disney Channel, as principal cellist of the Disney Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, which included a performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Or you may have run into Sharon deep in the forests of the southeast as she studied southern pine beetle ecology for her PhD at Dartmouth College where she also played french horn in their chamber orchestra.
