Lions Club sponsoring peace poster contest

The Mancos Valley Lions Club is sponsoring the Lions International Peace Poster contest and sharing Mancos students' vision of peace.

The contest is open to students ages 11 to 13. It starts Nov. 15, and the winner will receive $5,000. There are also 23 merit awards.

"We always talk about peace with the students," said art instructor Kim Russell. "Now it will be visual."

There will be a public showing of all the posters. Please check this paper for date and times.

Sandie Gregory, president of the Mancos Lions for the past two years, has stepped down and will join her husband, Rick, who has retired from the Baptist Church, in a tour of the states for the next few months. Acting president Val Hobson, standing in for the newly elected Howard Thomas, is making plans for the annual Lions Halloween party. "This year, it will be held at the Mancos Community Center, on Oct. 31, 6:30-8:30 p.m. All children are invited, free of charge.

The Mancos Lions Club meets at the Baptist Church Hall (Walnut and Bauer} on the second and fourth Saturday mornings: 9-10 a.m. Coffee and refreshments are served. All are welcome.
