Earl Hutchinson was presented a Milestone Chevron Award from Lions International for 55 years of service and membership with the Cortez Lions Club. Earl became a Lions member on Aug. 1, 1959.
Hutchinson and other club members were instrumental in helping raising funds to build the old Johnson Hospital on South Broadway, the first swimming pool in Cortez, the City Park on Montezuma Avenue, the fountain and planting the pine tree on East Main Street, and picnic tables and pavilions for the City Park. Lions also raised funds to construct kitchens at the Cortez Annex Building and the fairgrounds.
Earl was a business owner of the Jewel Box on Main Street.
Cortez Lions Club member Marilyn Lee was presented a Milestone Chevron Award for 15 years of service from Lions International. Marilyn became a Lion member Aug. 1, 1999.
