The Entrance Fire, located near the trailer parking lot at the entrance of the park, was reported to Mesa Verde Dispatch Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.
As of Wednesday morning, the fire was about 1.5 acres, said Mesa Verde National Park public information officer Cristy Brown.
Personnel supporting the fire include the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service employees and crews from Mancos and Cortez. Crews Wednesday afternoon mopped up and extinguished interior hot spots. The fire is being managed by Mesa Verde National Park.
The park is open, and services were not affected. Because of extreme fire danger and COVID-19 precautions, limited services and facilities are available.
A fire ban, enacted May 24, remains in effect. Do not stop in the roadway, Brown said, and allow fire personnel to have right of way. Drones are prohibited in Mesa Verde National Park.
