A plea hearing Tuesday for Lexton Barlett, who allegedly fled officers on foot while facing nine arrest warrants, was moved into the new year in Montezuma County Combined Courts.

Bartlett now will have a plea hearing for six cases, as well as a probation hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 9 a.m. He is also set to have a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, and return date on summons at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12.

Bartlett was arrested on nine warrants on Monday, Nov. 13.

When officer Vance Carver pulled over a 2016 Dodge Ram near the 400 block of East Fourth Street on Nov. 13, Bartlett jumped out of the truck and ran from police while covering his face to “avoid detection,” according to the incident report.

While officer Carver questioned the driver of the truck, Shilo James Vallejos, officer Shane Fletcher pursued Bartlett.

Fletcher’s hands were cut as he pursued Bartlett through thorn bushes. After Fletcher threatened to tase him, Bartlett fell down, put his hands on his head and apologized, the report said.

The Cortez Police Department provided information showing that Bartlett faced arrest warrants for the crimes of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an open alcohol container while operating a vehicle, driving an uninsured vehicle, criminal possession of a financial device, careless driving and failure to notify police of an accident.

Bartlett was also found to be in possession of a counterfeit $50 bill, but he informed Fletcher that he had found it in the park, realized it was fake and hadn’t planned on using it.

The bill, which was two front and back pieces stuck together, had the serial number AE01020304A.

The vehicle driven by Vallejos, and in which Bartlett was a passenger, was reported to be owned by Mark Martinez, who was arrested on a warrant when he arrived on the scene to collect his truck.

Bartlett was arrested for his nine warrants and on suspicion of obstructing a peace officer.
