Letters to the Editor Is Cortez racist? Maybe it's about Obama's policies

Dear Editor,

I read Bill Jobin's letter in the August 4th edition. I am having trouble with the statement "Prejudice and racism are strong in Cortez." Does Mr. Jobin base this on one incident?

Let me get this straight, Mr. Jobin went to a football game to register voters for either party and had an Obama sticker on his pick-up. Where was his pick-up? Could the people he was registering see the sticker? Or did he say something that the locals objected to? Are we prejudice to Obama's color (remember, he is half-white) or do we object to his polices? Policies that increased Medicare taxes from 1.45% to 2.35% in January.

Perhaps it was his policy that changed the top income tax bracket from 35% to 39.6%. There is more, the top income payroll tax went from 37.40/0 to 52.2%. Then there is the good old estate tax that went from 0% to 550/0. Maybe the people in Cortez object to Obama's strategy of punishing the workers and rewarding the non-workers. We can't forget the Obama strategy of cutting our military with enemies both outside our country and inside growing. How would we feel if Obama were all white and had done the items mentioned? Isn't it amazing that Ben Carson is black and has a large following both in Cortez and the United States?
