League of Women Voters to host presentation about June ballot

Montezuma County League of Women Voters will host a presentation on the June 8 ballot issue of exempting the city from Senate Bill 152 at 10 a.m. May 15 via Zoom.

In 2005, the Colorado Legislature passed Senate Bill 152, limiting local governments from competing with the private sector, but the bill also includes a provision for local governments to seek an exemption from voters allowing them to enter into broadband partnerships or businesses.

Presenters will be Rick Smith, city of Cortez general services director, and Miriam Gillow-Wiles, executive director for the Southwest Colorado Council of Governments. Both will provide information on what the ballot issue means and the importance of voting in the June election.

League meetings are open to the public. For the Zoom link, visit www.facebook.com/lwvmontezuma.org.
