Playing at home against Center on Dec. 16, the Mancos High School girls basketball struggled from start to finish in route to a 38-16 loss.

Unable to consistently put the ball in the hoop throughout the contest, Mancos scored just two points in the first quarter and eight points in the first half.

Leading scorer Jessica Gutierrez did not score and Nicole Hess had two points. Taylor Goff led the Bluejays with 13.

"We just didn't do anything," said Mancos head coach Mallory Morgan. "It was a long game, to say the least. It was tough for the team and they were frustrated. We have to work on some stuff."

Asked what the Bluejays must work on, Morgan mentioned the team's inability to rebound, score layups and play consistent defense.

"Defensively, we looked a little lost out there and we just need to score the ball. We missed so many chip shots from the block and rebounding is hurting us."

Brianna Garcia led Center with eight points, Ingrid Hernandez scored seven points, and Aaliyah Porres chipped in six.

Center improved to 1-4 on the year with the victory, while Mancos dropped to 1-2 with the loss.

Next up for the Bluejays will be a home matchup against Shiprock Northwest on Dec. 18 at 6:30 p.m.
