Lady Bears stretch winning streak to 11

Dolores volleyball team moves to 11-1 after victories over Norwood and Ouray

Since narrowly losing its opening match of the season, the Dolores High School volleyball team has been unstoppable, reeling off 11 straight victories in just over a month.

The Lady Bears’ latest victims came in the form of San Juan Basin League opponent Ouray High School, which Dolores defeated 25-9, 25-14, 25-15 on Sept. 30.

Statistical leaders in the match included Jordan Elder, who registered a team-high nine kills; Sierra Schwartz, who led the team with nine digs; and Abby Jones, who recorded a team-high 18 assists. Also standing out for the Lady Bears was Josie Majors, who banged down nine aces in the three-game match.

Two days before Dolores’ victory over Ouray, the Lady Bears faced off against Norwood and walked away with a 25-15, 25-21, 18-25, 25-17, road victory.

Elder smashed down 18 kills in the victory, while Schwartz led the Dolores with 13 digs. Jones registered 37 assists.

Now 11-1 on the season, Dolores currently sits ninth in the Colorado High School Activity Association’s Colorado Class 2A poll, which was released on Monday.

Next up for the Lady Bears will be a road matchup against Whitehorse on Tuesday. Dolores will then return home for a rivalry match against the Mancos Bluejays on Thursday.
