Lady Bears golf team competes at Conquistador

Dolores girls’ golf team shows gains at home tournament

Competing at Conquistador Golf Course on April 20, the Dolores High School girls golf team continued a season-long trend of consistent improvement.

Leading the way for the Lady Bears with a score of 130 was sophomore Kailey Case, who navigated perfectly mowed fairways and pristine greens with a level of precision that was somewhat surprising for an individual playing her first season of organized golf.

Also turning in a solid round for the Panthers was sophomore Tawnee Benavidez, whose score of 148 was one of the best of her career.

Freshman Sarah McDonald shot a 131 for the Lady Bears, and freshman Kalli Partington shot a 139.

Dolores was again without its top golfer, Dimery Plewe, who is currently recovering from reconstructive knee surgery.

“We had a great tournament, the weather was beautiful, and the greens were rolling so nice,” said Dolores head coach Monica Plewe. “Our team is sorely missing Dimery, but our players are improving by leaps and bounds.”

Other teams competing in the tournament at Conquistador included Durango High School’s varsity and junior varsity teams and Aztec High School’s varsity team.

Next up for the Dolores girls team will a tournament at Hideout Way Golf Club in Monticello on April 28.
