Lack of local support led to rally’s demise

Editor:

Maybe the Sugar Pine Ranch Rally died because of the lack of local support.

I saw some banners on businesses in full support, but like I said, “some.” I heard people ask over the years, “Why should we support the rally? Bikers will come anyway.”

Well guess what folks? They will not be coming. The person in charge of the Cortez Retail Enhancement Association for our community sent our city’s money out of town to Durango and Ignacio in support of Four Corners Biker Rally instead of supporting a local venture, the Sugar Pine Ranch Rally.

If memory serves, one of the reasons for starting this rally was to give a boost to our area at the end of the summer season. The economy had some impact on the rally going away, so why do we shoot our own foot by sending our money to a different county and city?

What is the definition of CREA? It must mean let’s support another area with our money instead of supporting Cortez. Makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks to the Sugar Pine Ranch Rally for giving the area something to be proud of.

See you in the wind.
