Gov. Jared Polis appointed Kristen M.M. Tarrin to the Dolores County Court in the 22nd Judicial District on Dec. 31.
Her addition to the court, which is effective immediately, fills a vacancy that Ian MacLaren left in November when he became a judge in the Montezuma County Court.
“I’m very much looking forward to it,” said Tarrin. “I’m really excited to get to know the community of Dolores County.”
Tarrin has worked in the 22nd Judicial District since 2023 as a Magistrate, primarily working on domestic and juvenile matters, according to a news release announcing the appointment. She also worked as the district’s child and family investigator since 2020.
“It’s all come together,” she said.
Since 2021, Tarrin has held four positions – child and family investigator, Guardian ad Litem, attorney and mediator – at McLaughlin Tarrin Law LLC.
Going into those roles, she already had a year under her belt as a child and family investigator at Pitler and Associates P.C.
At that same firm, she was a mediator for 11 years, from 2010 to 2021, and an associate attorney from 2007 to 2021.
Tarrin secured her first university-level degree in 1991, with a bachelor’s from the University of Colorado Boulder. In 2006, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
