Juneteenth – it’s now a national holiday! Creating a holiday sure is easier than looking at reparations. Until that discussion is more widely held, let’s celebrate from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Buckley Park. It’s Father’s Day – what better way to celebrate fathers than socializing and listening to music in the park? Bring blankets and chairs. Bring your friends! A family friendly event honoring, remembering and celebrating! It’s Black-led to unite and grow the Black community, and will feature history, music, a soul food potluck, crafts and fun!
From juneteenth.com: “Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. From its Galveston, Texas, origin in 1865, the observance of June 19 as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond.”
