Mancos watercolor artist Jan Wright will exhibit her paintings of Mesa Verde at The Farm Bistro, 34 W. Main St. in Cortez, from Friday, Nov. 1, through Jan. 1, 2014.
As artist in residence at Mesa Verde National Park in October 2012, Wright was able to have a more intimate experience with the ancient energies and dwellings, creating vibrant watercolors of the sites there. Under the auspices of the Mesa Verde Museum Association, the artist-in-residence program is now coordinated by her.
Wright has exhibited in the lounge of Far View Lodge at Mesa Verde National Park for five years with 2013’s show of large format paintings of the ancient sites there. Often native symbols or Kachinas emerge from her watercolors, adding another dimension.
This is Wright’s 22nd exhibit of her work, including one-woman shows in Utah, Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.
Her paintings are in several private collections as well as Salt Lake County Fine Arts Collection, CEU Price Museum, and Wells Fargo Bank of St. George, Utah.
Her work also may be seen at Artisans of Mancos and periodic shows at Cortez Cultural Center, Durango Arts Center, and at www.butterflyvisions.com.
