An 82-year-old Ignacio man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday morning on County Road 309A, south of the Durango-La Plata County Airport.
At around 9:21 a.m., Weldon Ballew was driving northbound on County Road 309A. According to Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Patrick Rice, Ballew lost control of the vehicle, swerved off the left side of the road and rolled the car. He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not determined whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Rice said he could not comment on the vehicle's speed at the time of the incident, but all possibilities remain under investigation.
Ballew was not wearing a seat belt at the time he rolled his Honda Civic, according to Rice.
