Ignacio girls, Bayfield boys reach IML finals

The Ignacio High School girls basketball team and the Bayfield boys basketball team both reached the finals of the 3A Intermountain League District Tournament.

The IHS girls faced Crested Butte in the semifinals on Friday at Centauri High School in La Jara. The Bobcats, however, had little trouble with the Titans and doubled them up, 52-26, to advance to Saturday’s finale.

Ignacio was scheduled to face the tournament host Centauri in the championship game. The Falcons beat Montezuma-Cortez in its semifinal, 69-18.

The Bayfield boys also reached the championship by scoring a narrow victory over M-CHS in its semifinal on Friday, 63-61.

BHS was scheduled to take on Centauri in the championship game after the Falcons defeated Ignacio 81-26 in the semis.

The Bobcat boys, however, responded from their semifinal loss by beating M-CHS in Saturday’s third-place game, 49-37.

The Crested Butte girls were scheduled to play M-CHS in the girls third-place contest.
