On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the community will be sending off Montezuma-Cortez High School’s wrestlers to the state championship in Denver.

The state-qualifying wrestlers, Hunter Goodall, DJ Vreeken and Bodie Stegelmeyer, along with coaches Ryan Daves and Shawn Higgins, will be escorted through town by the Cortez Police Department and Cortez Fire Department through Cortez before heading to Denver.

The district is encouraging members of the community to create signs, honk, wave and support the wrestlers as they head to the championship.

The lineup will begin at 7:50 a.m. at MCHS before starting at 8 a.m.

The escort will go south on Sligo Street, Seventh Street to Broadway, East Main Street, through downtown and then off to Denver.

The wrestling championships will begin on Thursday, Feb. 15.
