Hole in one recorded at South 40

For the sixth straight year, the Medicine Horse Golf Tournament provided golfers with an enjoyable experience while raising money for a horse center.

Held Aug. 23 at the South Forty Golf Course, the tournament hosted 56 golfers, who competed in four-person teams.

Finishing first was the team of Mike Bauer, John Randolph, Glenn Leighton and Steve Gomez. Jim Rosenbaugh, Kris Nittler, Kris Lamke and Beau Wagoner finished second. Amy Wise, Terry Wells, Kris Arrington and Libby Guilfoyle finished third.

Among tournament highlights was a hole in one by Bauer on the third hole. Bauer’s shot was the fifth hole in one recorded at the nine-hole South Forty.

Money raised by the tournament goes to scholarships to the Medicine Horse Center, a therapeutic riding center in Mancos.

“Everyone comes with a great attitude to have a good time and help out the kids,” said Medicine Horse executive director Lynne Howarth. “A lot of kinds in our area don’t have the opportunity to come to a center like this. The Medicine Horse Tournament helps make that possible.”

Howarth hopes to add a tournament for youths next year.

“Adults would play in the morning, and kids would play in the afternoon,” said Howarth.
