The Montezuma County landfill has closed for the day due to high winds, reports manager Shak Powers.

When winds reach 40 mph, federal law requires landfills to close to prevent wind blown litter. All local trash service companies were notified.

“High-wind closures happen 4-5 times per year, we apologize for the inconvenience,” Powers said.

The landfill will reopen Friday morning.
