Football Standouts

Tanner Desrosiers (M-CHS) Desrosiers is one tackle behind the Class 2A leader with 102 tackles on the season. In Friday’s 31-6 loss to Olathe, the junior linebacker recorded 12 solo and six assisted tackles, including a tackle-for-loss.

Forrest Pejsa (Dolores) The freshman linebacker is currently third in Class 1A for total tackles with 109 on the season. Although the Bears got walloped by Monte Vista last week, 48-0, Pejsa continued to shine on defense, racking up 15 total tackles.

Colin Hobbs (Dove Creek) With Case Baughman leaving last week’s game against Sargent due to injury, Hobbs was tasked with filling in. He answered the call with seven receptions for 66 yards and a touchdown, and chipped in four tackles on defense.

Drew Morgan (Mancos) With the Blue Jays tied at 34 with just four seconds remaining against Sangre de Cristo last Saturday, Morgan remained calm. Keeping his composure, the senior quarterback dropped back and connected with Bowen Strazza-Whalen on a crossing route for a 13-yard touchdown as time expired, giving the Blue Jays a 40-34 win.

Volleyball Roundup

Montezuma-Cortez

The Panthers dropped their final regular season game to Durango on Tuesday, 15-25, 19-25, 18-25. M-CHS finishes the season with a 4-18 record, and after a 1-9 record in conference play, will not move on to the playoffs.

Dolores

Finishing the regular season with a 9-9 record and 6-6 in league play, the Bears move on to the postseason and will host the Class 2A San Juan Basin District Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Mancos

The Blue Jays end the year with a 2-16 record, going 1-13 in league play, but they still have a shot at the postseason. Mancos plays at Telluride on Thursday, with the winner moving on to Saturday’s District Tournament in Dolores.

Dove Creek

The Bulldogs regular season ended with a 2-15 total record and 2-8 conference record. Dove Creek begins pool play in the Class 1A San Juan Basin District Tournament on Friday in Olathe, with the top two teams from each pool moving on to the tournament on Saturday.
