A Hesperus woman suffered critical injuries Tuesday after being thrown from a vehicle in a rollover crash on La Plata Highway (Colorado Highway 140).
Camey Jordan-Martinez, 47, was southbound about 1:30 p.m. when her 2014 Jeep Cherokee went off the right side of the road, began to roll and hit the embankment of a driveway at 12895 La Plata Highway, south of Hesperus, said Sgt. Ben Steger of the Colorado State Patrol.
Jordan-Martinez was taken to Mercy Hospital with critical injuries, according to the State Patrol. A hospital spokeswoman did not return a phone call this week seeking an update on Jordan-Martinez’s condition.
“At this point, we are still awaiting an update to figure out if they’re still life-threatening (injuries) or if they’ve improved or what the situation is,” Steger said.
After she was thrown from the vehicle, the Jeep rolled across a driveway and came to rest facing north.
Steger said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. He declined to say whether drugs or alcohol are suspected factors in the crash or how fast the vehicle was traveling at the time of the crash.
“At this point, all that’s still under investigation,” he said.
