Haviland Lake repair project postponed

A project to repair the outlet structure of the dam at Haviland Lake has been postponed. The project, which was supposed to start after Labor Day, will be rescheduled for September 2020.

The lake, 20 miles north of Durango, is open for recreation and it will be stocked with rainbow trout next spring.

When the outlet structure area was being inspected in September, state Park and Wildlife officials found a mechanical device used to raise the outlet gate needed to be repaired before the water level of the lake could be lowered safely. That repair will be made later this month.

The dam structure is owned by Parks and Wildlife and the reservoir is part of Haviland Lake State Wildlife Area.
