The Walden Woods Project has honored Durango-based Great Old Broads for Wilderness with a Global Environmental Challenge Award.

The award, inspired by principals upheld by Henry David Thoreau, recognizes organizations that create opportunities and solutions to environmental challenges. Great Old Broads is a national organization that promotes the preservation and protection of wilderness and wild lands.

“We have long admired the fine work of Great Old Broads for Wilderness and value the opportunity to share its mission and accomplishments with the media and those in attendance at the awards dinner,” Kathi Anderson, Walden Woods Project executive director, said in a news release.

Don Henley, Walden Woods Project founder, songwriter and recording artist, recognized the organization during a dinner at Boston Symphony Hall.
