When I was in high school, I had a friend named Mabel whose parents had escaped from communist China. When her mother died, Mabel became close to my mother.
One day she asked my mother, “Mrs. Fox, what is the government?” My mother replied, “We are the government.”
Mabel said she was blown away by that idea. Later, she actively participated in politics.
